Remodeling magazine's Big 50 Award is awarded to 50 remodeling companies each year and is only awarded to a company once in its lifetime, which makes this a special award that carries through the remodeling companies' history. David and Nancy Dougherty, owner operators of J. Dougherty and Son Building and Remodeling in Glassboro, New Jersey, were honored at a recent national awards luncheon sponsored by remodeling magazine. Dougherty was selected to the Big 50 Remodelers Hall of Fame, one of the professional remodeling industry's top achievers of 1990.
Dave received the award as 150 industry professionals looked on at the Willard Inter-continental Hotel in Washington D.C. May 17, 1990. The Big 50, featured annually in Remodeling's May issue, is a group of outstanding achievers in remodeling. Each year the magazine recognized excellence in these categories: design, sales and marketing, small and smart, market smarts, teamwork, niches, movers and shakers, rising stars, industry impact and business savvy. The annual Big awards program included an afternoon workshop which brought the nation's top remodelers together with leading building product manufacturers and distributors to discuss how to work together to better serve the remodeling consumer (homeowner). According to Remodeling Publisher Peter H. Miller, "Today's remodeling consumer is very demanding and very smart. Our industry has to be smarter. So we do as much as we can to encourage the exchange of good ideas within the professional remodeling industry. Everyone benefits." Dave is on the New Jersey Remodelers Council Board (NHBA). He also is a member of the Glassboro Chamber of Commerce, National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), International Surface Fabrication Association (ISFA) and National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). Dave is active with community events, carries an A+ Better Business Bureau rating, past listing with the New York Conservatory of Historical Landmarks. It doesn't hurt to have a reputation that spans 50 years in business.
